Crisp Chat Alternative: 4 Options for Small SaaS Apps

Nemo · · 7 min read

The best Crisp chat alternative depends on why you’re leaving. Want free chat and don’t mind a logo? Tawk.to. Want to own the server? Chatwoot, which you can self-host. Want chat with automation and an AI agent? Tidio. Running several small apps and paying Crisp once per workspace? Indiehacker Studio puts chat, feedback, bug reports, analytics and Stripe MRR for up to 50 projects behind one flat $12 a month.

Crisp is good software. Its free plan gives two seats, a shared inbox and mobile apps, which is more than most one-person products need. This post is for the founder who has hit one of its edges.

Prices below come from each vendor’s pricing page and recent pricing roundups in October and November 2026; check them before you switch. Disclosure: we make Indiehacker Studio, one of the options, so weigh our view with that in mind.

Why do founders look for a Crisp alternative?

Picture the usual path. You add Crisp’s free widget to your first app. It works. Then you ship a second app and a third, and each wants its own chat. Crisp prices per workspace, so every app you want on a paid plan is another monthly line on your card statement.

The reasons we hear most:

  1. Per-workspace pricing across several apps. Paid plans are priced per workspace: Mini is $45 a month for 4 seats and Essentials $95 for 10. Two apps on Mini is $90 a month before anyone writes in.
  2. Suite features you don’t use. Crisp grows into a helpdesk with a knowledge base, campaigns, more channels and AI on credits. A solo founder answering five chats a week doesn’t need most of it.
  3. Chat and analytics in different places. A visitor says the pricing page is broken; you open another tool to see where they came from and what page they were on.
  4. Feedback and bug reports end up in the same chat thread as “how do I reset my password,” with no rating, no category and no browser details.

If you use Crisp’s mobile apps, AI answers and help center every day, stay. Nothing below replaces all of it.

What does Crisp cost in 2026?

Crisp is free for 2 seats, and paid plans run from $45 to $295 a month per workspace:

Crisp plan Price Seats
Free $0 2
Mini $45 a month per workspace 4
Essentials $95 a month per workspace 10
Plus $295 a month per workspace 20, then extra seats

Paid plans include AI credits; Enterprise is quote-only. The thing to notice is the “per workspace”: the bill scales with how many products you run, not with how much chat you get.

Which Crisp alternatives are worth trying?

Tool Free option Paid pricing Best for
Indiehacker Studio 1 project, 50 conversations a month Flat $12 a month, up to 50 projects Several small apps: chat, feedback, bugs, analytics and MRR in one inbox
Tawk.to Free core chat, with branding Paid add-ons: $29 a month to remove branding One app, zero budget, logo is fine
Chatwoot Cloud: 2 agents, 500 conversations a month From $19 per agent a month, or self-host Founders who want open source
Tidio Free plan with a cap on conversations Metered by conversations, AI billed separately Chat plus flows and an AI agent

Indiehacker Studio

One script tag on every app you run, one dashboard for all of them.

  • A chat bubble with three tabs: Support (live chat), Feedback (a 1 to 5 rating and a category: idea, problem, praise or other) and Report a bug, which attaches the page URL, browser, OS, viewport and, if you turn it on, recent console errors.
  • One inbox for every project, filterable by project, type and status. You get an email for each new conversation. If you reply and the visitor has left, the bubble asks for their email and your reply goes there.
  • Cookieless analytics on the same screen: live visitors, pageviews, top pages, referrers, UTM campaigns, countries and devices. No cookies, and IP addresses are never stored.
  • Stripe MRR per project on Pro, from a read-only restricted key.

Pricing: Free covers 1 project, 10,000 pageviews and 50 conversations a month, with a small “Powered by” line in the bubble. Pro is $12 a month or $120 a year: up to 50 projects, 1,000,000 pageviews, up to 5,000 conversations a month, screenshots and screen recordings on messages, no branding, and a 7-day free trial.

Limits, honestly: no mobile app, no AI bot, no knowledge base, no email or WhatsApp channels. You answer from a browser tab.

Tawk.to

Tawk.to’s core chat is free, with apps for iOS, Android, Windows and macOS. You pay for extras: removing the “Powered by tawk.to” line is $29 a month, and AI Assist starts at $29 a month. Our Tawk.to review covers its limits in detail.

Chatwoot

Open source, so you can run it on your own server for the cost of the server. The cloud free plan allows 2 agents and 500 conversations a month with 30 days of history; paid cloud plans start at $19 per agent a month. Expect to maintain it yourself if you self-host.

Tidio

Tidio pairs live chat with automation flows and an AI agent. The free plan caps the conversations a human answers each month, and paid plans are metered by conversations, with AI billed on top. Check Tidio’s pricing page for the current tiers.

How do you choose the right one?

Pick by the job you open the chat tool for:

  • “Answer the occasional question on one app, for free.” Keep Crisp’s free plan, or try Tawk.to.
  • “I want my data on my own server.” Chatwoot, self-hosted.
  • “I want a bot to answer the easy ones.” Tidio, or stay on a paid Crisp plan.
  • “I run four apps and want one inbox, plus traffic and revenue.” Indiehacker Studio.

For the wider field, our best live chat software for small SaaS compares seven tools, including Intercom and Olark.

How do you switch from Crisp without missing a message?

  1. Export what you want to keep. Save past conversations you may need before you close the workspace.
  2. Install the new widget on one app first. With Indiehacker Studio that’s <script src="https://indiehacker.studio/s.js" defer></script>; our guide to adding live chat to a SaaS with one script walks through it.
  3. Run both for a day or two, then remove Crisp’s snippet so visitors don’t see two bubbles.
  4. Move feedback and bug reports into their own tabs. Collecting them separately is what turns a chat tool into a feedback loop.
  5. Repeat app by app, and cancel the Crisp workspace once the last one moves.

FAQ

Is there a free Crisp alternative?

Yes. Tawk.to’s core chat is free if you keep its branding, Chatwoot is free to self-host and has a small free cloud plan, and Indiehacker Studio’s Free plan covers 1 project and 50 conversations a month.

Is Crisp free?

Crisp has a free plan with 2 seats. Paid plans start at $45 a month per workspace (Mini, 4 seats).

What is the cheapest Crisp alternative for several websites?

Indiehacker Studio Pro is a flat $12 a month for up to 50 projects, with chat, feedback, bug reports, analytics and Stripe MRR included. Self-hosted Chatwoot costs only your server, plus your time to run it.

Which Crisp alternative has a mobile app?

Tawk.to, Chatwoot and Tidio have mobile apps. Indiehacker Studio doesn’t: you reply from the web dashboard, and new conversations reach you by email.

Can I use Crisp and another tool at the same time?

You can, but two bubbles on one page confuse visitors. Run them on different apps, or overlap only for the day you switch.

Try it on one app first

Start free with Indiehacker Studio on one app, send yourself a test message from the bubble, and see it land in the inbox next to that app’s traffic. The 7-day Pro trial (then $12 a month, cancel any time from your account) lets you decide whether it should cover the rest.

One script. Every project.
